David Thompson

David commenced his working life as a Trainee Industrial Officer with the Chamber of Manufacturers of NSW working in the Industrial Relations field and advising employers on award conditions and rates of pay. He later commenced Articles of Clerkship with Sullivan Bros, a legal firm practising in the Industrial Law field. He later transferred to La Fontaine & Co in the city and in March, 1974, transferred his articles to the firm of Diamond Vandersluis & Co at Hornsby.

The practice was later acquired by David Collins and in 1979, David Thompson entered into partnership with David Collins. The firm of Collins & Thompson was formed and continued to carry on the legal practice in Hornsby that had been established in the late 1960's.

David's practice includes Conveyancing and Commercial law together with Civil Litigation and Family Law. He is also primarily responsible for the growing practice and concentrates his efforts on providing a smooth, efficient and friendly professional service to the firm's varied clientele.

He also takes an active interest in ensuring that the firm's computer and other systems are up to date and able to cope with the changing needs of the law and of the clients. He is a firm believer in good computerized support enables frequent and clear communication with the clients of the firm. He enjoys assisting the "IT fellow" in managing the Computer Network for the practice.

David believes that his years of practical experience and learning, enables him to see the "wood from the trees" and to see the real problem that exists. The problem may not be what the client perceives the problem to be. Once correctly identified, the solution can be determined and guidance and advice can be provided quickly. If hard decisions need to be made, then he will tell you quickly so as to minimise possible conflict and expense. It is better that the problem be solved without great expense as the client will be happier in the long run.

Outside Law, David is involved in the community. He has been a Member of the Lions Club of Hornsby for over 25 years. He has been President (5 times), Secretary and Treasurer.
